Suspenseful and enthralling biographical drama about the notorious Ugandan dictator Idi Amin (Whitaker). Forest Whitaker’s portrayal of Amin is incredibly uncanny. He’s appropriately despotic and paranoid. But Whitaker also adds random dark humor or disarming levity to his performance. It’s genuinely unpredictable and unsettling. The look of the movie cleverly mimics the grainy documentary style of 1970s filmmaking.

The story is about a young Scottish doctor travels away from his family ways to experience something new when he runs into the new President of Uganda who happens to have strong feelings for the Scottish. This movie has great acting by the cast and good directing.

Whitaker completely deserved his Oscar for Best Actor; both he and James McAvoy give fantastic performances to carry this film to a climax that is exciting and thrilling. Many good films came in 06, and this film is one of them.

A fascinating portrayal of one of the most infamous dictators in history. Forrest Whitaker is every bit deserving of his Oscar with a nuanced performance of a man who, to put it mildly, was not a nice guy. The historical setting is thoroughly recreated and the camera doesn't flinch from some of the more disturbing elements of Amin's rule, while managing to paint the dictator in a very human light.

Forest Whitaker did an amazing job--his Oscar was well-deserved. This movie was engrossing and, at the same time, disturbing. Some of the violence is gruesome and unforgettable.

A great political drama containing within its frames some of the best performances by Oscar winner Forest Whitaker, Jame McAvoy and Gillian Anderson. A great film, truly, and I did love the amount of screen time that was given to each principle character. I was never bored in this film and would recommend it to anyone. Idi Amin's life and trials were put into public light in a well-bred style.

I thought the ending was great. But, everything else was so-so.

A fascinating story about a real life figure well imposed with a fictional character. I really liked how it did not impress judgment on Amin instantly but instead you saw what the doctor saw about him, and got see both his friendly and very unfriendly side. It works both as a historical perspective film and as a thriller. I enjoyed in both realms and Whitaker is great as Amin.
