Jack Nicholson gives an early simmering performance in this sprawling buddy film. The film is subtly funny in a sweet way and the best moments are when Nicholson, Otis Young, and Randy Quaid hit real moments of camraderie. The ending is a bit abrupt, but inevitable, I suppose.

A 70's road movie of sorts with naval men bringing a court marshaled prisoner to jail. It has some interesting scenes but on a whole it did not interest me enough. The hippie scenes were just annoying but some of the scenes where Nicholson really goes at it are somewhat interesting. Not anything great but okay.

Nicholson's Bad Ass Budduski is the star of The Last Detail, and there isn't one moment in the film when he is not overshadowing his co-stars. Nicholson is so believable in the role that you forget you are watching him, instead you see only the character. An awesome Nicholson film, while its one of his lesser known films, if you like Jack then you should see it.
