I cannot understand all the low ratings this movie receives. It has a lot of excellent humor and great action. I would compare it to True Lies but just not quite as good. The fantasy elements were original for the time, and there are quite a few good scenes, (Ex: Stallone is Terminator in the real world). The villains seemed to be the same guy as the villain from Cobra, so that's another plus.

Critically slated, this action-fantasy-comedy is far more clever than it first appears. It's actually quite a subversive parody of the Hollywood movie-making system and is full of sly wit and in-jokes. If John McTiernan could've just reined himself in a little and used a little more subtlety, it could've been fantastic.

The whole 'movie within a movie' concept is kind of fun. It points out all of the flaws and cliches of action movies and Arnold is good at being the clueless action hero. However, many of the jokes could've been much funnier and there is just an overall lack of action. There was potential, but the execution and writing held this movie back.

This movie starts out fantastically, but the film becomes mired in cheese as poorly-acted and directed action scenes take the forefront. It would have been fun to see Arnold do a smarter send-up of his action movie status, but there are moments of clever satire mixed amid the mindless action.

Movie plots that have fictional characters enter the "real" world rarely work and this movie is no exception.

A fantastic idea for film ruined by way too cheesy tactics and, let's face it, pretty bad acting (intentional or not). I do like the part where Death came out of The Seventh Seal, though.
