Schindler's List before Schindler's List came out.

Judgment at Nuremberg depicts the 1948 trials which saw the sentencing of surviving Nazi top brass by the Allies. Stanley Kramer was treated to having a cast most directors would have committed murder to have, for good reason. What a cast. We got Spencer Tracy, Burt Lancaster, Marlene Dietrich, Montgomery Clift, Judy Garland, Maximilian Schell, Richard Widmark, William Shatner, and of all people Werner Klemperer (Colonel Klink from Hogan's Heroes). And their performances are all...uniformly... EXCELLENT.
The 160+ minute running time would try the patience of some viewers but those willing to grin and bear it will be treated to a remarkable courtroom drama that examines and sometimes tries to explain the reasoning behind the complicity of German citizens whether civilians or soldiers or …

here is a film I thought I liked but as I though more about it the more I find out how little I liked it actually because it has no idea what it is trying to say. It really goes all over the place. Yes the performances are all good but only sells the poorly written material. It is poorly written because of the Spencer Tracy's character bizarre actions and views. He lets the defense ridicule witnesses for no good reason except in a Nazi's mind. then the film does not portray the prosecutor as positive but ends up siding with him at the end anyways even though it does not really state it well anyways. The film really is haphazard and needed some focus.
