I don't get the love for Departed. This is better, and was the original idea. Takes no prisoners-you've got to think quick to keep up with this. Unflinchingly written and well acted, though a few weak areas (i.e. soap opera music). And now some hyperbolic fun: Worst. DVD cover. Ever.

Way better than the Departed (which was based on it.) This film oozes kinetic storytelling and is both visually arresting and emotionally moving. One of the best of Asian cinema of the past decade.

A skillfully directed and staged gangster film lacking only character development; this was later remade as the much more detailed and masterful The Departed in 2006. Final Grade: B

Much like Abre Los Ojos and Vanilla Sky, the American version is better. I was not used to the style, but I found it be rather boring. It is still unfortunate that it was remade in America as don't like remakes. Only see it to compare.

The movie is has a great concept, this movie is the basis for the film "The Departed". While the story line is great there are some tragic flaws that kept this movie from being as good as its remake. The characters are not ones that you ever really care for. The biggest problems being the lack of conviction that the actors have. They don't feel as though they have any emotion towards anything going on around them. I'm glad this move was made as it made headway for what I believe to be an amazing film. If you watch this one keep an open mind, you may find it to be somewhat interesting. If you want to see a film that will blow you away then see Martin Scorsese's The Departed.
