Hud is all about a tour-de-force acting performance by Paul Newman, who brings charisma and life to an unlikable character. The film is essentially a character study of the womanizing, often drunk Hud who is surrounded by fascinating supporting characters. When these characters clash, the resulting tension and drama is fascinating.

Hud is an effective film that tells the end of an era, and a type of man. This change is personified by the family in the film with Homer the father as the honest man who believes in always doing what is right, Hud who is amoral always looking for the easy way out of any situation, and stuck in between is the grandson showing an uneasiness to go in either direction. The dynamic and tale of this conflict is a somber, and powerful story.

I thought it was pretty good. Although, it's not quite as good as I had hoped it would be. The dialogue in it is great, like all Paul Newman movies.
