"Hostel" offers plenty of graphic scenes of sex and drug use followed by torturous violence, but next to nothing in terms of compelling characters and plot. Then again, true fans of the splatter genre won't really care.

I like it best when the movies got a good story, good actors and a good script. This movie had neither. Ok I guess the actors delivered, but still. Ugh. The only thing this movie did well, and I guess that why so many people like it is to display sadistic torture scenes. I personally hated this move.

A very light plot, nudity and gore combined. This gruesome film made for shock value. If you’re into disgusting, gory and gloomy stories, this is your cup of tea. The unpolished cinematography, forgettable artist’s performance and lack of score just add to this filth. Not really sure what the purpose of this film was. Even the conclusion was unsatisfying. If you feel like vomiting from very offensive scene or just feel like pricking your eyes because of the manner of torture being shown, then Hostel will do it for you.

Despite being exploitive at times, there are enough genuine moments of skillful horror direction that the film actually succeeds at its main goal - being really, really scary.

I thought this was a great change from your typical horror genre bullshit.

Ghoulish, gruesome, gross-out thriller with graphic moments of brutality, torture and gore without a hint of suspense; apart from the gratuitous scenes of sex and nudity, the only thing this has going for it is an ending that gives the audience some closure (something films of this genre rarely do), which isn't enough to recommend it. A more appropriate title would be HOSTILE. Final Grade: D+ (Sorry, I did not intend to use so many words starting with the letter G.)

This film is why people call horror films tasteless art. It is a compilation of blood, boobs, and bad acting. Plus, even the concept is pretty sweet, the story sucks and spells horrible drab slasher film. This is a story about guys trying to get laid, and finding a hostel in some dirt rat country, to to get sold to psychopaths who wish to kill them. Except for the whole buying and selling part, Eli Roth gives us absolutely nothing here. This film can't make me scream, and thankfully never will. Sorry Eli, but this isn't a horror film. It is officially torture porn. Good night.
