The story is about a failed hostage negotiator leaves L.A. for small-town life with his family. A burglary gone wrong leads to a family being taken hostage. A father with a secret and a criminal on edge will lead to deadly showdown. This movie has some really dark scenes in it that makes you feel deep and dirty inside and Bruce Willis did a okay job as the main star, But the movie does lacks on writing and story.

Directed by Florent Emilio Siri. The film was based on a novel by Robert Crais, and was adapted for the screen by Doug Richardson. The film's plot is roughly the same as the novel; the main difference is that a complicated subplot involving the Mafia was removed and the ages of the first group of hostage-takers was lowered slightly. In the novel, Smith's employer is Sonny Benza, a crime overlord whose influence reaches throughout the entire West Coast.Good action movie with a touch of art.

A seasoned action thriller with all of the familiar trappings: the burned-out veteran cop, the idiotic villains, the intelligent children, etc. More entertaining than most, though the villainy by Ben Foster and Jonathan Tucker is very unsavory and overdone. Final Grade: B
