A prequel that failed on everything.

Not nearly as good as the book, but still a great insight into Lecter's youth.

Seen it on tv with no expectations at all, and i was actually a BIT pleased at the end. Overall, the work is very well done, with great music, mood and photo. The flick should have been more tough, probably regarding the psyche of hannibal himself, i'd loved to see some word puzzles. The movie is cool to complete a hannibal marathon, but is not perfect at all. The kid that plays hannibal is fine, but i'd just asked anthony hopkins for a pic of him when he was young, and cast an exact replica. Dont listen to me, anyway, im an insane fan of continuty and stuff when it comes to sequals/prequals. Hey... Gong Li is good enough worth for watching this.

Hannibal Rising is a pointless "chapter" if you will, in the Hannibal Lechtor series, but the results are all together very bad. The film is badly directed and written. It is slow, boring and at times, it seems to be trying to be another film entirely. Gaspard Ulliel is good as Hannibal Lechtor but he can't keep the film going alone. Another wasted opportunity.

Action: 2/3 + Comedy: 0.5/2 + Love/Sex: 1/1 + Plot: 0.5/1 + Music: 0.5/1 + Good vs. Evil: 0.5/1 + Special Effects: 0.5/1 = 5.5/10 or 55%. While Hannibal is a slightly better anti-hero than Jason Vorhees, the continued insistance to attempt to restore him to the Hopkins' glory days are tiring. When Hopkins' played Lecter one would not compare him to Jason, but now? Why not? It's just getting silly- staright to DVD silly.

Not nearly as good as Silence of the Lambs but still a decent scary show.

Although it was interesting to see the evolution of an iconic villain, this suffers from the Hannibal syndrome of focusing too much on the violence at the expense of the story. Still, Gaspard Ulliel was a good choice for Lecter.
