Middling biographical film combined with both the war and sports genres. And British too with an international supporting cast no less. The focus of the movie is Eric Liddell a famous athlete in the 1920s (portrayed by Ian Charleson in CHARIOTS OF FIRE) and his work as a missionary in war torn China in the 1930s and during WW2. Joseph Fiennes plays Liddell and isn't bad. But the rest of the movie moves at a breakneck pace and an intrusive narration dumps so much historical information, viewers may not register all the emotional beats proper.
