"If I told you about her, what would I say? That they lived happily ever after? I believe they did. That they were in love? That they remained in love? I'm sure that's true. But when I think of her - of Elisa - the only thing that comes to mind is a poem, whispered by someone in love, hundreds of years ago: "Unable to perceive the shape of You, I find You all around me. Your presence fills my eyes with Your love, It humbles my heart, For You are everywhere."

Imanginitive, funny, sumptuous, and surprisingly complex, Guillermo del Toro's latest stroke of genius is one of many that proves the filmmaker as the master of modern monster movies.

A love story that could only come from Guillermo del Toro. A deft mix of fantasy, drama and romance with a fantastic lead in Sally Hawkins, with likewise excellent performances from Michael Shannon, Octavia Spencer, Richard Jenkins and Michael Stuhlbarg. It can get a bit weird, but overall del Toro once again proves he is the master of fantasy.

"The Shape of Water" is a whimsical and wondrously filmed mixture of romance, fantasy, science fiction, and a slight dash of Del Toro's plain old weirdness.

The Shape of Water is a stunning ensemble effort, as Richard Jenkins, Octavia Spencer, Michael Stuhlbarg and Michael Shannon offer fine performances while the breathtaking work from Hawkins and Jones anchors, enrich and enhance the film.

Brilliant performances and other technical executions were there. It's just that I didn't feel as much I should do in this supposedly drama with unexpected romance in a context of a sci-fi plot.

This was always going to be an uphill battle for me because I am pretty much done with the trope of the beautiful mute woman. Also the heroine lost my sympathy completely when she (spoiler!) flooded the beautiful old movie theater. The movie does, however, get many bonus points for that gorgeous couch.
