While a movie about a love story during war was nothing new by the time of its release, "From Here to Eternity" is iconic, if only for its immediately recognizable scene of kissing by the sea.

A really good film featuring two very compelling romances set in a 1941 Hawaii. Great performance from Montgomery Clift as Prewitt. Nominated for 13 Academy Awards and winner of 8 including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Supporting Actor (Frank Sinatra).

Romantic drama set during WWII. This film takes place off of the battlefield and focuses a group of characters and their relationships. Good acting, in a story filled with fighting, drinking and smooching.

The love story shown here is actually compelling, as juxtaposed against WWII in a way that doesn't overtake the drama with needless action scenes (cough, cough - Pearl Harbor.)

I thought it was a decent movie. But, nothing special.

A very good film about the time just before pearl harbor with well drawn characters and good performances from the entire cast. It is an interesting film to watch and I liked it because it lacked cliched elements found in many war movies. Frank Sinatra is not that good in it actually but everyone else is great. I really liked the dynamic of the two relationships of the film, and the ending works out perfectly. Much better than Zinnemann's other best picture win the ultra boring Man for all seasons.

I had heard from a friend that this movie was bad. I was pleasantly surprised! I have not seen the remake, so I can not compare. The love story and the way it is told is done pretty well as I can compare to others I have seen.
