Z for Zachariah final grade? B and that's OK.

I last read the book in middle school and there are changes from the original story. First off it's much more of a love story because there's a third character (Chris Pine) who did not exist in the book. Still, Z for Zachariah was pretty good. It's a lean hour and a half and gets the job done without overstaying its welcome. Margot Robbie is good in the role of Ann, a lone survivor of a post apocalyptic American town who is joined by a wandering scientist (Chiwetel Ejiofer). His mechanical expertise thanks to his scientific background and her resilience due to her strong Christian faith makes them a good team with some underlying romantic tension. So what do you think happens when a THIRD survivor played by Chris Pine shows up? Exactly what you'd expect. Unlike other post-apocalyptic fil...

A for Awesome

'Z for Zachariah' is an intimately compelling drama set in post apocalyptic times. All of the usual routine (often nonsensical) detailed accounts of a world made uninhabitable and a society rebuilding from the ashes is done away with here. This film contains only three characters, and it focuses solely on the way in which their varying personalities are forced to coincide. Quietly, and slowly, we dive into these people as they develop different thoughts and feelings toward one another. Their conflicting ideologies about life and religious affairs fuels drama at first. But it's when the third player enters that the tension rises. The threesome dynamic brings up many facets of basic human flaws when balancing emotions during the establishment of new relationships. It's explored in a...

It All Ends So We Can Begin Again

Z for Zachariah takes an intimate approach to the end of the world. We don't get to see what happened - nor do we even get to see the real aftermath. All we get are a trio of people who have somehow survived the nuclear attack (and fallout) and are just trying to survive. We see this rather bleak world through their eyes and how they approach this brave new and very lonely world.

Our first look into the world is from Ann Burden (Margot Robbie). Far from being the glamed up model ala Wolf of Wall Street - she is a Midwest down-home girl here. Alone on her family farm, she plants, traps and gets by - her trusty dog (aren't dogs always there in the post-apocalypse?) by her side. She is religious but doesn't push it and, despite the circumstances, isn't about to give up. She has chickens, ...

a science fiction without much fiction

"It's about... rebuilding.
Maybe God... or your father... put this here for us.
So we can... we can start again.
Maybe that's why we're here... Just to start again."

The future prospects of our beloved world looks rather bleak, judging by the post-apocalyptic films of recent years. The endless series of disaster scenarios doesn't bode well. "The Maze Runner", "Divergent," "Mad Max," "Oblivion," "The Hunger Games", "Snowpiercer", "Automata", "How I live now", "World War Z", "The Well" ... they all show a society that recovers on the ruins of a previous calamity. Similarly, "Z for Zachariah". You won't get a real explanation about the incident that led to a genera...
