Unnecessarily pointless as both a prequel and an origin story. The improved special effects are an step forward from the original, but "The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas" takes a clumsy step back with poor casting choices and a script just as awful as its 1994 predecessor.

A prequel to the beloved TV series that kids would love with the lovable alien Gazoo (Alan Cummings) sent to earth to study man's mating rituals. We get to see how Fred (Mark Addy) and the perfectly cast bumbling idiot Barney (Stephen Baldwin) meet, woo, and eventually conquer the hearts of Wilma (Kristen Johnston) and Betty (Jane Krakowski). The beautiful Joan Collins plays Wilma's scheming filthy rich mother who can’t stand poor Fred while Thomas Gibson is a bit over the top as Chip, the scheming villain and Wilma’s ex boyfriend who refuses to take no for an answer.

An even worse film than it's predecessor.

When you can't even get John Goodman, Rick Moranis or Rosie O'Donnel to return for a movie when it would seem that they are all starving for acting jobs, then you know the movie is going to be a let down. If they were smart enough to say, "There is no way I'm going to do that sequel" then that really should tell the audience something. Kids might like this one, but any self respecting adult that remembers growing up watching the cartoon will avoid this movie.
