"John Wick" by Yojimbo

The arrogant upstart son of a gangland boss steals the car and kills the puppy of a stranger, little knowing that he was once the most feared contract killer of the criminal underworld.
The coarse sentimentality of the opening, leading to an implausibly high but stylishly executed body count is very reminiscent of John Woo's early films and John Wick follows a similarly emotionally manipulative but thankfully unpretentious path. Dispensing with any and all frills, this film is little more than a 90 minute action sequence, packed to the gills with slickly presented death-dealing. Keanu Reeves' laconic one-man army is very much in the same mould of The Matrix's Neo and the comic strip violence is very reminiscent - if rather better - than the similar Wanted.
Hardly the height of depth …

John Wick review

"People don't change. Times do." It was cool seeing Keanu Reeves again after some absence and good will information about him. The storyline is very much simplistic and screenplay somewhat average. The highlights would be the choreography (one of the best much like the Bourne/Taken trilogy), pulsating music and lush cinematography and Sin City like subtitles. Would have been better to have in-depth history on Viggo, John's history and his marriage (since it was only emphasized in the start). One can never tell this could be a franchise in the making. Another thing that could have been nice was a prolonged hand to hand combat between Viggo and John. Overall, an average revenge flick but a very good action picture matched with awesome background music. Guess the quote from John "I …

16 years is a long time but Keanu Reeves Returns!

Former contract killer John Wick's motivation for killing 100+ people in this movie is perfectly understandable. Criminals break into his house, steal his car, and kill the dog Wick's deceased wife left him as a gift. Wick (Keanu Reeves) feels the compulsion to set things right and kill anyone in sight that is associated with the hoodlums responsible for his plight and sweet shit does he do some killing.
This is Keanu Reeves' best action movie since the original Matrix and among the best R-rated examples to hit theaters in some time. Two reasons for this are how the movie looks downright beautiful sometimes and more importantly, John Wick is played as a consummate professional despite also being a grieving widower or as a minor character puts it, vulnerable. John Wick does not play …

Awaken the psychopath

I am glad we are out of this experimental stage of cinema and back to the basics. John Wick delivers what most boys night out craves... guns, fighting, plot, bad guy, good guy, good bad guy, bad bad guy and a lot of dead bodies. The film succeeds in delivering sense of community among the city's under world, the Russian mob and the end of Jonh Wick's barrel.
The story is quite simple, as the Russian Mob boss summarized in one sentence... you killed his #u5king DOG!!
It is a story for all the people that fantasize about ringing the neck of the person who cut you off in traffic, or cut in front of you in a queue, who said something offensive to you or behaved unapologetically and deserved to get their ass kicked... this story is for all the violent justice we perform in our head but …

"John will come for you and you will do nothing, because you can't do nothing."

Do you hate complicated films where your brains hurt while trying to keep up with the story ? Do you start to drool spontaneously when watching endless violent action scenes ? You answered twice "Yes Sir" ? Well, then "John Wick" is cut out for you. Because the story is simple in a way that even your goldfish can follow it easily and it it contains a concatenation of rough, cruel liquidations. I never thought that stealing a Ford Mustang and wringing the neck of a puppy could result in a never-seen, raging revenge. John Wick, however, thought otherwise. This retired former hitman leaves a bloody trail in New York, after they steal his car and kill his dog, donated by his deceased wife. The fact that this …

The Greatest Anti-Hero of 2014

Chris Kavan - wrote on 01/24/2015

John Wick is the rare action movie that, while it has an impressively high body count, actually seems to take itself seriously. I mean, the hero actually re-loads his weapons, he uses a contemporary (and useful) fighting style (a variation of Judo) with a lot of arm holds and throws, chokes and take downs (none of this over-the-top wire-fu nonsense) and he and his friends follow a strict code.

We open the movie with our "hero" saying goodbye to his wife (probably to cancer or other illness) and while grieving finds out she left him an adorable puppy - to have a purpose in his life other than his (kick-ass) car. But, of course, things can't stay happy. A group of Russian thugs happen to be at the same gas station and admire his car, when he tells them in no uncertain terms to stay the …

Dont mess with the boogeyman

smeagol - wrote on 01/18/2015

Keanu reeves returns as a former hitman (john wick) known once as the boogeyman who got out of the killing game some years ago as in enjoying life with his wife. when she gets ill and dies she leaves him one last present which is a cute puppy. unfortuantly keanu runs into the son of a the russian gangster he used to work for and the kid not only steals his car but kills his dog the one last thing he had to live for.
This sets him back to his old ways as he seeks revenge .
There is a serious body count in this movie it must surely be one of the most killings ever. it makes rambo look tame with the aount of people he kills. it has that matrix feel to a lot of the scenes where there seems a endless amount of guys just coming out of nowhere to be shot. its much like a jason staham movie …

Awesome movie

Three things you shouldn't do to a bad-ass:

1. Ruining his life
2. Kill he's family
3. Push him till he snaps

The story is about ex-hitman comes out of retirement to track down the gangsters that took everything from him.

When I first heard the news that this movie was getting made and the face that two directors that never directed anything before I thought it was going to be a load of crap, but it turns out I was wrong and this movie is awesome.

Keanu Reeves is simple at his best here, even if he's not the greatest actor on the planet, he does try every role and in this movie he does. The directors of the film David Leitch and Chad Stahelski both do a excellent and fantastic job of directing this movie and I found out that these two are actually stunt men. The villain was …

Everything An Action Movie Should Be

Unknown - wrote on 10/27/2014

'John Wick' succeeds where most action movies these days do not. It does the one thing that all great action movies should do: kick lots of ass! This film is lean and mean, just like the title character. It barrels through it's short runtime, delivering one awesome brutal beat down after the next. All real stunts. All exciting and fun to watch. The story is kept simple. No needless downtime scenes to pad the length. No extra drama. No dialogue explanations of obvious things. No dumb cliches. Only the necessary cliche of one unstoppable man out for vengeance. Of course, he is still fallible throughout. That adds a few moments of unpredictability. Nothing but the essential action beats turned up to 10. Some sharp comedy is lightly sprinkled in at the right moments. Keanu is …

Keanu Reeves is Back

Looneymanthegreat - wrote on 10/25/2014

John Wick is not a great movie, it’s not even a particularly good movie; but I think It’s the movie we needed right now. This year’s action movie roster has been dominated by CGI-fests, comic book adaptations and mediocre Luc Besson productions. It is refreshing to go to the cinema and watch an action movie with a small budget, little CGI and some great energy. Does that mean I don’t like the big budget action movies? Not at all; But it’s fun to change the pace, and John Wick is a solid enough action movie to stand on its own.

This is also the sort of movie that its star, Keanu Reeves, needed. Last years 47 Ronin was an abysmal train wreck of a movie; But John Wick reminds us how good Reeves can be when he’s given the right material. He really struts his stuff in …
