A crowd-pleasing action extravaganza, "Skull Island" homages not just the original "King Kong" and other monster movies from its time, but classics like "Apocalypse Now" as well.

Should have just titles this Apocalypse Kong - but I actually liked the Vietnam War era setting. The cast is fun to watch, especially John C. Reilly as a WWII pilot who has been stuck on the island of misfit monsters for a few decades and Brie Larson as the anti-war photographer. Still, it's fun to see all the actors do their thing, even if it's a bit one note. Obviously a set up for the big Kong/Godzilla mashup, but a good time none-the-less.
