'The One I Love' is a relationship drama told with subtlety. Duplass and Moss give an honest portrayal of a married couple attempting to reconnect. However, narrative tricks are at play. The plot is a constant series of unforeseen turns that add up to one unique and deft mix of genre crossing. Drama, humor, intrigue, emotion, and a bit of suspense circulate with ease. Despite many elements coinciding, the reconnection between the two is always the focus of the story. There's a great central message about an individual's ideal of their spouse, how they change over time and if expectations can match with reality when faced with unavoidable truths.
