Still wondering what genre it was.

I was somewhat excited to see this film. Not because of the reputation of the director Amenabar or the topic. And also not to see if Ethan Hawke manages to uphold his status as meritorious actor. But because I was curious about Emma Watson and whether she was able to shake off the personage Hermione Granger. I haven't seen her at work (besides a meaningless role in "Noah") as a lead actress since Harry Potter and I was wondering how she would cope as a more mature person. Indeed, she's no longer that sweet, innocent girl (according to the tabloids, she plays now preferably with another kind of wand). As in Harry Potter, her character is kind of mysterious. Paranoid Slow-Burn Mystery

'Regression' is a return to the slow-burn, chilling dark mystery format. There are horror elements which elevate certain scenes with fear and dread. It all worked for me. This is the one area that kept the mystery alive through most of the turn-less plot. Our protagonist's investigation has him stumbling around in the dark with few answers for a majority of the film. Paranoia builds slowly over time. We feel all of his passion and anguish involved in solving the crimes without any real evidence present. All of these facets play directly into the believable outcome of the whole ordeal. Everything makes sense and wraps around the main theme of the story. Some will not like the truths uncovered at the film's end because of anti-climactic excuses. I don't see how you could classify …
