Too campy to take seriously, but too stern to have any fun with, "Escape From New York" was probably cool for its time, but today comes off as a piece of 80s nostalgia that's as washed up and outdated as Reaganomics.

A great action film! Snake is a great, albeit, one-dimensional character. This movie doesn't waste any time jumping right into the story. Air Force One has gone down inside the prison walls and only one man can do the job. This is the way all movies should be made, no messing around. You have to love the early-eighties soundtrack and the bad m-fer himself Isaac Hayes as The Duke.

This is truly a good movie for what it is; a cheesey action/sci-fi movie. A lot could have been better, but more could have been worse. This is definitely worth a watch.

There's a certain campiness to this classic sci-fi adventure, but one thing that Carpenter does well is to create a claustrophobic dystopian setting that drives the atmosphere of the scene. Kurt Russell creates a surly and iconic action hero and the low budget action scenes are well-executed.

One of Carpenter's better action efforts. There is a lot of imagination at work here and the grind house style is as entertaining as ever. This wouldn't have worked half as well without Kurt Russell.

Escape from New York is a classic Sci-Fi action movie. It has a wild 80s style plot that is really fun, crazy over the characters, and great action shots. Overall, a really fun movie that is worth sitting down with and enjoying.

This movie has a lot of flaws, but it makes up for it with cheesy action, an interesting synthesized soundtrack and an amusing story. The plot is what it is, John Carpenter didn't try to give it any more depth than it needed to be, but this is a reason why I enjoy it. It is a mindless action movie and sometimes that is a good thing. Besides, Kurt Russell is a bad-ass and makes the move decent.

A not so good 80's action movie that makes up for all the cheese of the 80's. Sometimes I blame this movie for every crappy 80's action movie I saw. Despite this huge flaw, Russell was a good choice for the lead. See it with Caution!

Maybe the history is a little off, but Escape from New York didn't get a cult following for nothing. Snake Plisskin as portrayed by Kurt Russel is the ultimate don't-give-a-damn anti-hero. It may not always work, but it works well enough.
