Terrence Malick make another two hour collage

Indyfreak - wrote on 10/02/2017

I get it, Terrence Malick. Greed is not good. That point was made with Oliver Stone's movie WALL STREET over 30 years ago and countless other dramas set against the cutthroat environment that is big business.
It's one thing to make a movie with such a cast; there's over a dozen A listers in this besides Christian Bale who plays the lead. It's another to film the movie in such a way that entire scenes are near impossible to figure out the geography and the characters' position. Oddly, the movie looks nice. Glossy and expensive like Hollywood should look like.
I am well aware that Terrence Malick is a controversial director among film buffs. That he's accused of being all style and no substance and being too experimental and artsy for its own sake. I don't dislike it when Malick does …

Lost My Patience With Malick

Unknown - wrote on 06/29/2016

I've never been a true fan of director Terrence Malick, but I've always admired his wholly unique presentation of film. It's a quality that has carried me through all of his works despite my personal wavering of them over time. That appreciation was tested to the limit with 'Knight of Cups'. His signature style of aimless free-flowing cinema without boundaries has become monotonous here. I couldn't get into this at all. The lack of anything tangible to latch onto emotionally, as well as the complete absence of any coherence, was testing my patience. This really is nothing more than some beautifully shot images radically edited to sweeping music, with the most vague whispered narration sprinkled in. These are all things that encompass the auteur's style. However, they've become a …

Knight of Cups - Movie Review

Matthew Brady - wrote on 01/03/2016

Knight of Cups was very hard to digest and what I mean is that I had mixed feelings after finishing the movie. So the best thing to do is to let the movie sink in as I try to let my thoughts of the film come together and after thinking about for awhile, this movie Terrence Malick weakest film.

I don't know how many times I praised Emmanuel Lubezki for his work on cinematography and in this movie he shines once again. Every shot and every frame in this movie made me say "Wow". The movie is so magnificently shot that it's like The Tree of Life in where I couldn't take my eyes off the screen.

Unfortunately, this is the movie that Terrence Malick goes too full of himself and so may say that he went too full of himself in Tree of Life, but I think he didn't, at least I had a gasp on …
