good but flawed and rehashed

if people asked me is it good i would say yes it is. something tht has not been said about star wars since the first 3, but the reason why i cant say its great or rate higher is it is not without flaws.
its almost like they had a guide line of things to do like the original and they stuck to it. the android to replace r 2d2, rey to replace princess lea ,the first guy to replace solo etc. then they basiclly ripped of the entire story of the original. the bridge scene was extremly lazy i can understand the rest but that was too far of a riip of and a terrible ending for the best character
the guy who played what is basically the new darth was terrible. seriously who cast that guy as a villian. he was more like a posh buy in a play than a darth character. poor choice.
overall its the …

"Hope is not lost today... it is found."

Finally I was able to admire this highly anticipated feature film. Although, I wasn't waiting impatiently for this new episode, like so many millions of other Star Wars fans. I always have to think hard while trying to situate this Star Wars movie in the whole saga. All that prequel, sequel or semi-sequel mumbo jumbo isn't something I'm thrilled about. To be honest it annoys me immensely. When I was an 11-year-old boy I went to the theater, together with an uncle, to watch the very first Star Wars movie. Afterwards I came out of the theater totally flabbergasted. It just knocked me of my feet. This was, at that time, never seen in any previous movie and was quite impressive. Especially for a young boy like me. The following two sequels build …

'Awakens' The Giddy Fan In Me

'Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens' is a much welcomed return to form for the series. Anyone who was disappointed in Episodes 1-3 can rest easy after seeing this bombastic, rousing, nostalgic adventure. 'The Force Awakens' has brought excitement back to that galaxy far, far away. All of the feelings I had when watching the original trilogy as a kid have retuned. This entire film is a love letter to those three classics. It recaptures their spirit to an exact form. The plot runs so smooth. New developments are consistent with the fast pace, punctuated by thrilling action which moves the story along. A great mixture of practical and CG effects have an immersive quality and provide many moments for visual storytelling. Additions to the lore expand upon the already vast …

Razzle Dazzle space adventure

The Force is calling to you. yeah! The most anticipated movie of the year, Star Wars The Force Awakens hits at theatres, and here we go. JJ Abrams knows how to build a plot that has nothing to speak about, just drive characters well known and new ones, to set the tone for the sequels. The Force Awakens, is a perfect start to the next one. Abrams and his team has given a visual razzle dazzle, emotional, action packed space adventure with suprisingly a great character development. The action kicks hard, be it the attack on Jakku (crazy space ships flying shooting beams at a garbage ship what they call in the movie), space fights, the light saber duels or the resistance attack, all gives a treat for the visual lovers. In 3D (I personally admit that I watched it in a pretty average …

Star Wars: The Force Awakens review

Its hard not to be perceptive as a huge fan and as a critic for filmcrave. Had the privilege of viewing this before anybody did before thru pre-screening tickets with my son. So much nostalgia ran thru my mind such as viewing the first Star Wars with my cousin on betamax. During the opening the crowd erupted with joy, showing that this is another piece of history. Only in a few weeks of opening it has broken records. It was nice seeing the original cast. What's nice is that they made 3 interesting characters and a loveable cute droid. Action was fast, cinematography was splendid, sound and effects as always top-notch, acting was decent and storyline of course interesting for old and new fans. It felt like we had a better perspective of the ever famous Tie Fighter and Stormtroopers …

The Force Awakens - Movie Review

Matthew Brady - wrote on 12/22/2015

"Chewie, we're home".

The Force Awakens is a continuation of the "Star Wars" saga, balance returns to the Force as the First Order, emerging from the ashes of the Empire, clashes with the Resistance, which includes scrappy newcomers as well as heroes from the former Rebel Alliance.

It's been awhile since we've seen a Star Wars movie hit theaters and the last one wasn't that great. Fans today are still not over what George Lucas did. Then the news came out about a 7th film in one of the biggest and most iconic franchise of all time, but that only made fans more worried. Everyone had doubts over J.J. Abrams directing a new Star Wars movie, because Star Wars is one of the BIGGEST movies ever and fans seriously don't want another Phantom Menace on their hands, but after seeing the …

"The Force Awakens" by Yojimbo

A storm trooper defies his conditioning and escapes enlisting the help of a captured prisoner who embroils him in the resistance's quest to locate Luke Skywalker and revive the Jedi order. JJ Abrams was in a bit of a strange position; despite the huge expectation attached to the new Star Wars film, nobody really expected The Force Awakens to measure up to the original trilogy, and barring some catastrophic error of judgement, nobody really believed that it was going to be as bad as the prequels. Which is exactly the case. Abrams addresses their worst excesses creating a simpler, less verbose and more efficient narrative and ejects the infantile slapstick of Lucas's "comedy". That's not to say that there is no humour; in fact one of the reasons the film works so well is exactly because …

The Force Awakens...and is as good as ever!!

Indyfreak - wrote on 12/19/2015

Without hyperbole or irony this is the best since the original Star Wars film. There's plenty of echos and familiar plot devices but who cares? Politics and midi-chlorians are nowhere to be found in this installment which is entirely focused on action, adventure, comedy, drama, and of course a small dash of tragedy and even a bit of romance (even though it's hilariously one-sided). What Abrams has accomplished here with the bittersweet memory of the prequel trilogy just ten years old is astonishingly well done.
The new cast that includes John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, and Oscar Isaac, they do a superb job of making their characters likeable, interesting, and sometimes even better developed than the original cast. The terrific trio of Ford, Fisher, and Hamill are back and do an …

I Feel a Great Resurgence in The Force

Chris Kavan - wrote on 12/18/2015

Make no mistake, I am an unabashed Star Wars fanboy. I have also been anticipating this film ever since Disney announced they took over the Star Wars franchise. Even though I don't consider them as bad as other people, I admit the prequel films didn't have the same impact, the same spark that the original trilogy has. But what would Disney and J.J. Abrams bring to the table? It turns out, having a fanboy as the director is one of the many keys that drives The Force Awakens to both new and familiar territory - but, more importantly, captures the spirit of the original films and once again propels Star Wars to the forefront as the ultimate sci-fi fantasy series.

Abrams has already relaunched one sci-fi franchise in the form of Star Trek - although that reboot left some fans indifferent …
