The Dresser is an acting tour de force--about acting. It's actually a double tour de force. Albert Finney is excellent as Sir, but Tom Courtenay is also perfect as Sir's dresser, trying time after time to get the grand old exhausted Shakespearean actor geared up for yet another show. It's wartime in England, and the company is female or otherwise non-military material. But the show must go on, and we feel the agony of surmounting real aches and pains and sorrows to entertain one more audience.
