Poetic. The Oscars brought me to this film; I was curious to see this film after its 4 nominations, and still am after having watched the film. There are some brilliant elements on display here; the movie delves into some deep aspects of survival, family, home, and civilization. The film also features some intriguing imagery and symbolism, but those things combined didn't come together as I was led to believe. The film was not emotionally resonant at all (in my opinion). An ambitious directorial debut from Benh Zeitlin, but I do not understand the Oscar nominations (at all). I wasn't impressed by Quvenzhane Wallis's performance.

Beasts of the Southern Wild creates its own fairytale world - a unique cross between a Southern Gothic fantasyland and post-Katrina realism, and then thoroughly immerses us in it. We see this world through a child's eyes and, as such, the film deals with important themes - like family and mortality - with a child's optimistic perspective. The result is a life-affirming, tragic, and sometimes heartbreaking piece that finds triumph in the littlest of joys. Firsttime actors Dwight Henry and the charming Quvenzhane Wallis are both revelations - bringing a freshness to their characters. The film's cinematography and score are poetic, supporting the film's otherworldly tone and setting. One of 2012's surprises and best films.

A small, intimate picture of one young girls life. Wondrously imaginative and emotionally captivating. I've never seen anything like it before. A true original.

Throughout the movie u can hear 6year old Hushpuppy's thoughts and she has a really interesting way of seeing things/life. It's a different movie than what u watch these days, there's not very much happening but it's really nice. A group of people are living on a piece of land (island) that is doomed to disappear soon coz of the raising water level. But they won't move like everybody else did, and they have their own community with their weird way of living. They don't what to live like the rest of the world. A bit weird ending but still one to watch if you like to watch movies that separates themselves from the rest. If you like movies with a lot of suspense and/or action, i don't recomend u to watch it..
