One cannot question Malick's ambition, but one can question his competence. If you shoot a film only 20 minutes at a time, each day, without significant pre-planning, you'll come to the cutting room with a profusion of structurally dyslexic rushes that can only be ordered by putting some shitty narration over it. And you all fell for it!

"Days of Heaven" is a powerful and emotional portrait of early 20th century working class.

"Sometimes I'd feel very old, like my whole life is over, like I'm not around no more". 'Days of Heaven' is a mesmerizing film that captures the beauty and calm activities in life, while having this unexplained sadness underneath. At the end, you learn that memories, good or bad, will occasionally haunt your thoughts and emotional state - since the film is about someone reflecting on their memory. My relationship with Terrence Malick can be complicated, but when he scores, it's remarkable. One of the highest forms of art.

Gorgeous. Malick is a masterfull director. The farmhouse is iconic. The story is a bit slow at times and the movie is too much like Badlands and his other films. If you haven't seen this or one of his films in a while, check it out.

There's a really simple premise and execution behind this film, but the real core of the film is revealed in the breathtaking and striking shots and imagery. I also liked the airy narration, which reminded me of Sissy Spacek's in Badlands. Some may be bored by this film, but it truly ranks among the great ones.
