As a lone vigilante stalks the streets of Meanwhile City in search of the murderous leader of a cult, three damaged and lonely souls struggle to find meaning to their lives in contemporary London.

Franklyn can best be described as a psychological thriller dressed in the trappings of Gothic fantasy. The – initially at least – two stories are told in tandem but it is of course the visually appealing scenes in the gloomy alternate reality that are the most intriguing. The world Gerald McMorrow has created is essentially a steampunk version of The Matrix and also has a lot of similarities to its forerunner Dark City. Powerful but not enough

Two different stories that slowly become one, and once realization hits you, you'll feel quite a gloomy sadness. The visuals of the movie were awesome, and the moral of the story - without proper, non-exploitative guidance we are all lost souls (my opinion though) - is a good one, and very well implemented. The character of Emilia was, honestly, very annoying and I do not think that the relationship with her would be anything but doomed to self-destruction of all involved. The other characters were really interesting, the father's implacable hope to find and save his son by faith alone, Milo's sorrowful way of coping with the grief, and well, the main character's delusion and forfeiture of any faith at all.
