Our Daily Free Stream: Brian De Palma - Carrie.

Carrie (1976) review

The story revolves around Carrie White (Sissy Spacek), whose mother is a deranged prayerful mother who is overly protective. Shows some dated aspects in terms of the horror genre and pace was a bit sluggish. Camera direction was tedious to a fault that it tends to becomes its weakness, especially the dizzying show where Carrie dances in the prom. On the positive note, Spacek did a splendid job with her portrayal and the screenplay was effective with lines: "Everyone isn't bad, Mama! Everything isn't a sin!" from Carrie and "These are godless times, Mrs. Snell." from Mrs. White. It's difficult for a horror film to be effective especially when the lead is a child. Still, Carrie is considered a classic that it is because of the noteworthy performances, themes (of isolation, bullying, …

"Carrie" by Yojimbo

An awkward and unpopular high school girl reaches sexual maturity and discovers she has the power of telekenesis. Almost inevitably, Brian DePalma's tale of supernatural vengeance is based upon a Stephen King story and right from the opening scene full of full frontal nudity in a girl's locker room that is so gratuitous it crosses the line into outright seediness, it displays his usual level of subtlety and sophistication. Nil. In fact DePalma's clod hopping direction almost wrecks the film, with its painfully heavy handed religious and sexual imagery and some pretty unforgivable audio-visual bullshit during the finale. What makes the film are the powerful central performances from Sissy Spacek as the young girl who only wants acceptance, instead finding cruelty wherever she turns and …

Spellbinding and highly influential horror movie that remains one of the true classics of the genre.
Carrie is a macabre fairy tale for the modern age oozing style and imagination.
Boasting the ultimate 70s High School cast (John Travolta, William Katt, P J Soles, Amy Irving and Nancy Allen) and featuring Sissy Spacek in a role she was seemingly born to play, Carrie is manipulative and horrifying, portraying the heartbreaking effects of being an outcast in society.
Stephen Kings first novel is brilliantly adapted by director Brian De Palma and his flashy and kinetic camerawork are a significant reason for the films immense success.
Reportedly one of the most watched movies on Halloween by American teens, its hard to deny its endless ability to shock and terrorise a whole new …

King+DePalma+Spacek= Masterpiece.

I 1st saw thismovie when I was in my early teens and it scared me to death. It had such an Impact on me that I have since became a huge Stephen King fan and have read every one of his books at least 3 times. Combining his storytelling with DePalma's brilliant Direction created a masterpiece. "Carrie" is not your average horror story, so I'm warning those who haven't seen this and expect it to be some all-out horror film full of gore, because "Carrie" is quite different. It's more like a teenage drama-turned horror flick when the last thirty minutes come along. The film follows the basic story of the book, with a little bit of changes here and there, some things excluded. Carrie White is a nerdy teenage girl who is tormented by her high school peers. On top of that, she has a fanatical …
