Established Steve McQueen as an icon, and contains some of the most enthralling sequences in any movie ever.

Completely overrated and boring. This film fails to build any kind of tension and lacks any meaningful character development.

Bullitt gets a lot of love for having one of the longest filmed car chases. The chase is indeed spectacular and sprawling (though, I personally find the one in the French Connection to be more thrilling due to the claustrophobia of it.) The rest of the film, save a few great one-liners from a steely-eyed McQueen is pretty average, though.

One of McQueen's best. It's got one of the greatest car chases in cinema history.

A film that suffers from the superiority of its successors namely Dirty Harry and The French Connection. Steve Mcqueen is fine not on par with Gene Hackman and Clint Eastwood but he is good. The problem is a lacks a compelling story or villain which the two other films both have. The best part of the film is the chase scene which does deliver but that is the only scene that does everything goes on and ends up nowhere. The Robert Vaughn Politician really seemed unnecessary to the plot and only hurt it. Watch the other two films previously named they are much better.

Yes, the car chase is a masterpiece, in fact, Frank P. Keller won the Oscar for editing, mainly because of that car chase, but the rest of the film is great as well. Steve McQueen is of course one of our great actors who was lost too soon. But, the real gem of the film is the story. I think you have to watch this film probably twice to really get what's going on. It just keeps you guessing until the very end. And, yes, that car chase is great. Bullitt is an entertaining and complex film that will leave you guessing until the end.

Let's get one thing straight - you don't want to watch Bullitt for the story or the acting - you watch it for the action - more specifically one of the greatest car chase scenes put on film. It's not a great film, but it works.
