Not since "2001: A Space Odyssey" has a movie been so worthy of being called "art." Terrence Malik has without a doubt created the one of the greatest and most fascinating cinematic masterpieces of the 21st century.

Life in a nutshell. The Tree of Life is one of the most stunning, magnificently shot movies I've ever seen. The cinematography is something that you can't take your eyes away from, it's just that stunning. Emmanuel Lubezki is the master of cinematography, I mean he's right up there with Roger Deakins, Vittorio Storaro, and Robert Richardson. Terrence Malick direction in this movie was pure brilliant, even when sometimes it dose get a little pretentious with some of the imagery, but all that aside, this is a beautiful film that's not going to be for everyone.

What is The Tree of Life? It's a celebration of life. It's a prayer to the one who creates all things. It's a hymn of reality about both the good and evil in the world. It's a reminder of who we are and where we come from. A true poetic masterpiece. One of the best films of 2011. Shoutout to the beautiful city of Waco, TX. City of my birth and hometown of director Terrence Malick.

A drama of life in totality. A film seeking, questioning, and surrendering life to God. This follows a story of a family who could have seen life entirely. *** I rarely appreciate movie like this. Few dialogues. Shots coming from nowhere. Very quiet and yes, boring. But this film is different! Who would not be satisfied on performances of Brad Pitt, Sean Penn and Jessica Chastain? Who would not be hooked on this argument of life, God, and Science? I think, the filmmakers did an amazing job on this. This is not just out of the box execution of an incredible story and representations, this is film without a box, no boundaries on techniques and style, superb story and stellar performances. THIS IS FILM. Great and exceptional.

Beautiful movie with some effective moments but in the end it seems very badly written. And also some moments are really pointless

I'm just gling to lay it out there. I didn't get this movie. It reminded me of a 2011 version of 2001: A Space Odyssey. My wife tried to explain to me that the middle child, the who is killed, is supposed to be Jesus. I still don't get it. Maybe someone can explain it to me. The cinematography is beautiful, though.

The film looks great - beautiful imagery, great use of light, intimate detail - yet for all that beauty, it just left me scratching my head (and nodding off). Terrence Malick certainly had a vision, but his world and mine just don't mix and I can see why this film is so polarizing to audiences.

"I want to make a movie and win an Oscar. Let's throw in a non-linear story with minimal dialog and no true intent, grandeur music to contemplate the meaning of life, and show artistic cut scenes of the landscape of Earth, and hell, why not throw in some evolution of the universe and dinosaurs. Then I'll call it "Artistic", and get the attention I deserve." This movie is a perfect representation of how the Oscars go wrong and pick movies that simply don't deserve the attention they get. It has happened in the past, and will happen again in the future.

A collage of ideas about life and the world around us that uses an assortment of beautifully photographed images and fantastic music to present them. However, I found the scenes regarding the relationship between the father and his sons to be the only interesting parts. This is a hard film to criticize, because it never felt like I was watching a film and I think that is what will turn most people off. The whole thing is not easy to digest and just feels all over the place, because it doesn't have a narrative and meanders throughout. It tries to come off as some important, sweeping epic, but it was just too boring at certain times.
