Jodie Foster goes vigilante.....

Detective Mercer “How could you pull it back together after all that’s happened to you?”

Erica Bain “It’s simple you become someone else….a stranger”

Reminded me of the 1974 Charles Bronson “Death Wish” whereby Jodi Foster's Erica Bain is driven by fear after a sadistic after-dark attack brutal attack in Central Park that leaves her fiancé Dr. David Kirmani (Naveen Andrews) dead and herself in a coma for three weeks. The savage attack has robbed her of her privileged security, peace of mind, and even her pet dog.

Unable to move past the tragedy and growing impatient with the police to find the men responsible, she illegally buys a 9mm handgun to protect herself and get her confidence back to face life on the outside. But one day she's shopping in a store, and …

Jodie Foster is the DJ of probably the most boring radio show in the world and enjoys a picture postcard romance with the perfect man. When he is killed by muggers, she takes her power back by gunning down every bad guy she comes across. Yes, it's Death Wish with a chick. I've never been the biggest fan of Jodie; she's always decent, but never spectacular, and so it is with this one. She does have some very able support from Terrence Howard who once again impresses as the cop who is unknowingly pursuing her, and Neil Jordan's direction is just right; the attack scene is particularly effective, especially the "happy slapping" mobile phone footage which adds a chilling realism to the violence. But I do have some problems with it, and they pretty much all stem from the same thing. The fact …

If You Sit Through This...You're The Brave One

Hey, Bruce Wayne, meet Bernie Goetz. I felt like I was watching Batman Gon' Psycho. Foster's character's name is Erica Bain for a reason--she should be Poison Ivy's maniacal assistant. Jodie foster and her fiancee are brutally attacked in a tunnel in Central Park and the fiancee ends up dying. In response she buys and gun and tries to execute every bad guy in New York. She should go join the WatchMen. This movie tries to create a moral dilemma by creating this vigilante who takes justice into her own hands, but really turns out to be a loose cannon who should be locked away forever. Her actions were laughable and ridiculous. The only "justified" killing was the first one in the convenient store. Had she not shot that man she probably would have gotten shot. He was obviously not afraid …

The Brave One a 9/11 Vigilante Allegory?

“The Brave One” starring Jodie Foster (“The Silence of the Lambs”) is a drama that will keep you thinking long after the movie ends.

Foster is excellent as Erica Bain, a happy New York radio host, who after a brutal attack leaves her tragically wounded and her fiancé dead, changes from a paranoid victim into a relentless eye-for-an-eye vigilante. While an NYPD detective (the always cool Terrence Howard, “Crash”) is hot on her trail, Erica begins to lose herself in bitter grief and the urge to retaliate.

Even as she’s picking up the pieces of her shattered life, she is fierce, fragile, and blinded by revenge, stalking the “bad guys” on her own terms. It’s hard to imagine another actor in Foster’s role, portraying that perfect blend of strength, vulnerability …

LifeTime Original In The Making

Well, I will say this about the film. Jodie Foster likes to shoot people. Hahaha, naw seriously, you ever watch a movie, it's pretty good, yer in the theater and you notice...you keep looking down at your watch??
Well, that was this movie for me. FIRST OF ALL, it WAS a good movie. Good actors, etc but...man it was just WAY TOO FRIKKIN LONG! I mean, it must've been somethin because I rally did enjoy it. No it wasnb't a favorite but it really did hold my interest. In fact, now that I think about it, there were two things I didn't like: #1) It was too much about the cop AND her, it should've been less about the cop. and #2) She keeps talkin about "becoming this stranger" well that's all fine and I understand but DANG WOMAN! Once you smoke like 5 people either BECOME the stranger and start …

Foster's Dedicated Performance Can't Save the Film

Despite the dedication of its star, Jodie Foster, THE BRAVE ONE is a dark, muddied and muddled affair, momentarily appeasing those seeking for thrills and disappointing those expecting a valid point to be made.

Director Neil Jordan (of THE CRYING GAME and INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE) visually brings Erica’s paranoid, unraveling life into dizzying effect; the camera often sways from side to side, plainly illustrating Erica’s anxiety and her growing disgust with herself. And, as always, Foster’s performance as woman-on-the-verge is compelling and instantly sympathetic. To see her diminutive figure and wide blue eyes shaking with fear whenever she fires doesn’t exactly illicit whoops and cheers from the audience. Never is this combination more apparent than in the chilling drug …
