The final year of Russian socialist writer Leo Tolstoy's life comes to the screen with Christopher Plummer in the lead role and Helen Mirren portraying his wife. This movie has a pretty damn good cast and good acting but the movie does lacks on some characters in the movie.

I found this film terribly silly and overwrought, but never dull. It's a must-see if you're a fan of any of the cast members: they all turn in wonderful performances.

A very strong film filled with great actors and performances. The final year of the troubled marriage of Leo Tolstoy and his wife are portrayed here, along with other important figures of the time. There's really no standout - everyone is superb. In fact, I wasn't really sure who we were supposed to sympathize with, though I found Paul Giamatti's character a little bit of a weasel. Don't know how accurate the final scene is, but it is very moving. One minor complaint - all the characters are Russian, but being portrayed by actors who don't even attempt the accent (most are British). That was a little annoying at first but eventually you get past it because everyone is turning in some really strong work.
