"Black Snake Moan" by Yojimbo

When an embittered blues guitarist finds a young woman battered and bloody by the side of the road, he decides to take her in and try to help her deal with her mental issues in a very unconventional way. Black Snake Moan looks and sounds fantastic, that's obvious from the start and a typically intense performance from the king of cool Samuel L. Jackson ensures that it's always deeply watchable. Especially since Christina Ricci is still hotter than an in-heat jalapeno holidaying in Death Valley, even if she is playing the town bike. Reminiscent of a more offbeat version of Monster's Ball, this film is essentially about two damaged people finding peace with themselves but despite a very strong opening it feels like a bit of a case of style over substance. It's well written and well acted …

Offbeat But Interesting

As strange as this film is, it’s ultimately a story about redemption. There’s something beautiful about the uneveness of this movie: the first twenty minutes are focused, the middle doesn’t know where to go, and the last twenty minutes regained its focus and offered something a little extra–something touching and real. I think this is one of my favorite roles of Christina Ricci: she’s a sex addict at first glance but we see her evolve until the last frame. Samuel L. Jackson is complex, to say the least, and every time he refers to the Bible, I think of his speech on “Pulp Fiction.” Just when you think he’s going to take his character one way, he takes it in the opposite direction and it feels refreshing. Justin Timberlake surprised me again like he did in “Alpha Dog.” …

People, do not be fooled by the DVD cover. This is not just a movie about sex, solely so people can see Christina Ricci prance around half naked, chained to a radiator. It's actually more than it seems. Christina Ricci plays Rae, a girl in the deep south of Mississippi, who, resulting from being sexually abused as a child, is a nymphomaniac. After her boyfriend (played surprisingly well by Justin Timberlake), leaves to go into the Army, she gets a little out of control, and ends up beaten and drugged on the side of the road. Lazarus, a religious, former bluesman, whose wife had just lef thim, (Samuel L Jackson) finds her, takes her home, takes care of her, and yes, chains her up to a radiator to control her. Rae's boyfriend, eventually comes home without warning after being discharged …

Blues and Heat

This was completely different than what I thought it would be, based on the previews.

It was actually more...touching (for lack of a better word).

You have an old blues singer who has been done wrong by his wife and brother. He now has is own major demons to defeat regarding his anger and pain from that ordeal. Then you have a young nympho...and well we know the "problem" there now don't we.

These two get brought together and at first the blues man intends to "cure" her of her evil ways. Chaining her in the house. Keeping her restrained...yet he never intentionally harms her and he is blind a little bit by the extremes he has gone to rid or of darkness.

In the process of trying to help her; she helps him (as he helps himself as well......in an internal healing …
