As violent as a movie about war should be, and it gives off the terrifying feeling of being completely and utterly surrounded by the enemy.

Black Hawk Down features high-octane action and some harrowing images of the battlefield. It's technically accomplished like Ridley Scott's movies often are. But it becomes overly long and bloated and boring over the course of the running time. The ensemble cast ends up nearly unrecognizable in full military garb and good luck with finding at semblance of character development.

The awesome battles standout above the rest.

The action is in your face and fierce and the actors deliver believable performances that make their off screen personas pretty much indistinguishable. One of the most brutal and memorable war films ever made.

The Smart ass Eric Bana and the calm cool and collective Josh Hartnett head this all star casted movie. Filmed during the high point of the struggle in Somalia this war movie uses new and inventive ways to portray our military in action. This was the best war movie to follow-up to Saving Private Ryan although it is nowhere near the level of that movie. I was emotionally drawn to the struggle that was going on because my grandfather served in the military. Ewan Mcgregor also did a great job in this movie as the coffee server to combat ready soldier. All in All I would recommend this film

War is hell and Black Hawk Down doesn't sugarcoat it. Real soldiers, real danger, real sacrifice. One of the best modern war movies - it took me way too long to finally watch this one.

Josh Hartnett is amazing in this movie. Excellent use of camera angles and sounds. I believed that I was right there in the action with the characters. The use of day and night when danger approaches is well done also. My only problem is that it could have been shorter since some scenes dragged on a bit.

I had read the book before seeing this movie. The book was great and I mean GREAT. If you like to read I highly recommend it. The movie was ok and I think if I hadn't read the book I would have enjoyed it more. I felt in the book you had this feeling like the solders were never going to get out of the hell they were stuck in and that didn't translate well to the screen. All in all I am sure that it is better then the two and a half stars I gave it but I would recommend the book over the movie, the book is a solid four stars.
