Similar to De Sica's Bicycle Thieves, this film manages to paint a real portrait of humanity in trying times, without accepting a cynical perspective. The film is told largely from a child's eyes and exists with a certain fantasy and optimism, but, at the same time, the harsh reality of a struggling poor family in Iran are not glossed over.

I wish I had seem this film sooner. Kind of like a more obscure version of Slumdog Millionaire, it's a story of a brother and sister who have to split a pair of shoes between them, so they were both be able to go to school. Between their poverty, innocence, and their love for each other, the movie is very sweet and touching.
