Great visuals, Horrible dialogue

I have to only give this a 3 star review because the dialogue was so terrible. There's not much else I can say about the film visually, it could be the best ever, especially in 3-d. The story was great, it has so many layers. To me, I thought it was a direct corollary to the Iraq War. We premptively invaded to go search for oil, in Avatar it's another resource and we must have it at all costs. It's a story about Government and especially capitalistic greed. First go see Up in theAir, then see this. I also have a problem with the whole concept of "highest grossing movie ever." You see, there's a problem with that. Ticket prices just keep rising so, of course, every couple years some blockbuster is going to keep breaking the record. I think two stats show the true box office …

Not content with having spoiled and raped planet Earth of all of its natural resources, the insatiable forces of capitalist greed seek to expand their ravenous appetite to other resource-rich planets in the galaxy, in this case, "Pandora." The fact that Pandora has an indigenous population--the Navi--whose village just happens to be situated directly above a rich mineral deposit, is no obstacle to the mighty forces of military imperialism.
Initially marines are sent in to infiltrate the Pandoran population in "avatar" bodies (grown from a mixture of human and “alien” DNA) in order to gather recognizance and earn the trust of the natives. A few days ago, I went to see James Cameron's latest creation, Avatar. If memory serves, about thirteen years ago, Cameron proclaimed that he was king of the world. Well, I can assure you this is his re-crowing. As I sat down in the theater, I was trying to think about what I should expect. During those two and a half hours, I saw one of the greatest spectacles I have seen all year.
On the lush, green world of Pandora, a corporate figurehead(Giovanni Ribisi) teams up with the U.S. Armed Forces and mines precious rock on Pandora. The Na’vi, the indigenous humanoid species of Pandora, scorn the humans for setting foot on their moon. What do you look for in your movie experience? That is the question you must ask yourself before seeing a film like Avatar. Some people only like the frosting on the cake; they don’t care for the whole piece as long as it is covered with sprinkles.
Sprinkles are what Avatar has and plenty of it. It is a masterpiece of special fx and cinematography. The movie is at the forefront of technology. And if things keep going in this direction I may eventually start to care about 3D in another 20 years. This little gimmick changes the event from a movie to a mediocre carnival ride.
If you want a 3D experience why not try something called life. You could walk and talk and do it all in real time. The sights and smells are there everyday for your enjoyment, everything is interactive …

THE Cinematic Adventure Of Our Time

"Avatar" in 3D is, hands down, THE cinematic adventure of our time. Yes, by all means, it has its' predictable moments. Just as true as: "Peer Gynt, Hamlet, The Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Citizen Kane, A Doll's House, Pelle the Conqueror, Hunger, The Name of the Rose, Perfume: The Story of a Murderer, The House of the Spirits, Love in the Time of Cholera (happily I have only read the novel here), Sophie's Choice, and many, many more great stories have heavy, clear elements of predictability in them story-wise. And thank heavens for that. Otherwise this would have been unbearable, and not a very successfull nor meaningful tale. This is for anyone in love with movies, adventures and the good tales: do not sit there in hesitation! Get out of your chair and watch this on your cinema while …

Let me clear up the air and say that Avatar may have the highest quality of visual effects anyone has ever seen, but a mere high quality of beauty could not hide a hollow substandard storyline. It's really a high low film in my opinion, high it is when in the beginning you're somehow drawn to beautiful imagery and the flawless blending of reality and computer generated graphics. Lows of low for me when midway through the movie I felt like drowning. Drowning to a point where I felt like I’ve been drugged by beautiful scenery and CGI. And it’s not that I don’t like seeing this beauty overload but it’s somehow pointless looking at pretty sight with nothing to go about it. Was I watching the same movie everybody else was watching? I couldn't possibly have been watching the same Avatar as everybody else. People are raving about this, calling it "revolutionary" and "a milestone in filmmaking." All I saw was an unoriginal, uninspired borefest of a glitchy sci-fi "epic."
Alright, plot, as if this movie actually had a plot worth mentioning. You've got this moon called Pandora (yeah, real original) and it's inhabited by a bunch of creatures that have wires sticking out of their heads so they can connect with other creatures. Makes perfect sense, right? Absolutely Incredible

ET, Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones, Independence Day, and every other movie that has been turned into a ride at Universal Studios and/or Six Flags...Avatar is an instant classic. It is not often that I can watch a movie that is virtually flawless. Apparently, it took James Cameron 10 years and something like $7 trillion to make this movie. It was worth every bit of time and money. The spectacular visuals effects created a phenomenal experience that will be difficult to top. As a viewer, you almost feel like you are in Pandora, the world of the Na'vi, experiencing its enchanting beauty.
The story itself kind of reminded me of Fern Gully, but times 100 because it was so much more emotional and so much more thrilling. Jake Sully is torn between our world and the world of the Na'vi. As an …

The Bar is Officially Raised

It's official James Cameron is both officially a genius and insane. Even after conquering the world with Titanic, can you imagine the pitch for Avatar? If he hadn't released the world's most popular movie, this may have never come to fruition, but it's a good thing that it worked out this way.
This is a stunning film on many levels. The first is which, of course, the visuals. This is the first film I've watched in 3D and I can say I am impressed. This is truly the first mainly CGI film where I can honestly say the characters didn't feel CGI. Gollum from LOTR was a good first step, but the Na'vi are on a whole other level. Expressions, mannerisms, emotion - everything I hoped for and it still exceeded my expectations.

I think you can find a million reviews out there that will all tell you the same things about how this movie is so great and the story and setting and blah blah blah blah.
So I'll try and share some things that won't get written about as much:
1. The CGI character modeling was... better. I don't know how else to say it. If you take any other movie that had a purely CGI main character and hold it up to this one, Avatar will be better. I can't even rightly explain it to you... but... you know how when you're watching a movie and the CGI characters just never look quite right? This movie found a way, through just little added animations and small touches, to be better.
