"A Serious Man" is hard to describe, but it is easy to get into and can best be construed as a dark and dysfunctional parable.

This subtle drama is disquieting in its ability to cut right to the core of human emotions of loneliness and futility. The film is tinged with the Coen Brothers' trademark wit and zaniness, but it's a quieter and less cartoony film for them that rides its cast's brave and involving performance.

I was a little disappointed with this one. I mean, movies with this level of melancholy are either really great or I just don't get them. I just didn't get this movie. There were, however, a few good parts.

A Kafkaesque tale of woe and existential crisis told in the Coen's trademark style of caustically-witted Americana, 'A Serious Man' manages to be both wonderfully sadistic and emotionally harrowing while never falling victim to the trappings of 'cringe comedy'.

I gotta say, I was a little disappointed with this one. I just wish Larry would quit being such a wuss. He needed to tell his wife what's up, get his kids in-line, etc... I know the Coen's can do better. This one was not one of their bests, but it beats some of the other junk that came out in '09.

Being a longtime fan of the Coen Bros. movies, I can say that this one I like the least. From the reviews that I gathered on the film, I had the notion that this was supposed to be a dark comedy, but there is nothing dark about it and most of the humor is mildly funny at best. This film plays more like a drama, that shares similarities with their other film 'No Country For Old Men'. The film's ending is also reminiscent of 'No Country' 's, but in that film it didn't bother me so much and in this one it does. The movie is still worth viewing for any Coen fan, but I just didn't enjoy it near as much as all of their other works.

An interesting and strange film from the Coen's brothers. It is odd but good and I would suggest to watch it for the interesting characters and the very good dialogue. It looks incredibly well and has very good acting throughout. Although it has the standard forced let down ending like many of their movies and their are a few too many dream sequences but is very interesting anyways.

Another brilliantly written and directed film by the Coen Brother. Perfect in every sense.
