While not a good movie by any means, but believe it or not, out of all the Amityville movies, this is the first one I watched as a kid. I remembered this movie creeping my out, so in so strange way, I have this in a special place.

Mostly dismissible except for a few appealing moments. It plays out slightly similar to the first, but with the possession added in. The climax is not the teenager killing the family, but rather his exorcism, which takes a page straight out of the film "The Exorcist". A miss-match of genre moments is all thats left to fill in the blanks.

This Amityville prequel throws in more violence, and, for good measure, incest, but still doesn't manage to hold my interest thanks to cheap effects and some laughable acting. The atmosphere is still good, too bad nothing else works.

This prequel promises to shed some light on why the house became haunted and make up for the maiden film's lack of vision, but it turns out to be just a below-average shocker with unsympathetic characters. It's full of repugnant violence, horrible make-up and the incest subplot just doesn't belong. A couple of disturbing moments can't compensate for a bad horror screenplay and the acting is just too easy to make fun of. Final Grade: D+
