Like the career of the real Harvey Pekar, "American Splendor" is a mold breaking, sardonic work of close human observation.

What a charming and uplifting little movie. Paul Giamatti is at his grouchy best, but this movie is full of imperfect love and tenacious humor. Harvey Pekar will be missed, but this is a wonderful introduction to his work and personality.

Paul Giamatti gives a great quirky and neurotic performance here. I found this film subtle and enjoyable, but at times it is a little dull and slow-moving.

A great biography of Harvey Pekar, an cult comic hero to many, who writes about life, the good, bad and ugly of it all. Paul Giamatti is in top form, and the story is wonderful. It may not be mainstream, but it's worth watching.

A decently entertaining biography of a comic book writer and artist that few people now days may know or even hear of. Giamatti is very good in his role and the characters are fairly deep. Still, it may be too odd for most people.
