More acting and less fighting here. This is a much smarter and convincing story than any of Van Damme's other films. He is essentially playing himself, in a mock real-life situation and it works very well. A surprisingly good film.

JC gets a cool makeover and it works a treat thanks to his superb, self-deprecating performance. I wonder what his fans think about this? John Woo and Steve Seagal's ponytail take a few hits when the movie buff talk interrupts the tension and the surprisingly convincing pathos. One of the film's strengths is the way it is able to juggle the moods shiftswithout any sense of jarring. In one scene you feel like getting up and cheering when JC reverts to type, but then his final speech leaves you wondering which way is up - just one of the many twists in this strange, but utterly compelling film. Well done, JC.

JCVD was very well done. The movie really worked by taking aspects of JCVD life and integrating them into the action movie. JCVD did a great job. The movie is a hint artsy but very funny and still with some fun action and bloody death scenes. May not be for all straight action fans, but for those with more wide ranging tastes it is well worth watching.

JCVD has never been so convincing!! As the L.A Weekly would put it "…simply put, it's a blast…Van Damme is a pleasure to watch —funny and light on his feet.." Can't wait to buy it on DVD!!!

This movie far exceeded my expectations. The acting was far above par, not only for Jean Claude, but for anyone. The direction was very artistic and beautifully executed. A true insight into Van Damme's real life struggles and feelings. Bottom line... a great and aesthetically appreciated movie. Another interesting thing to look at is the similarity between this movie and "The Wrestler". Two "washed up" actors making a major comeback. This year has been a great year in the film industry, not so much in way of making profits, but in the quality, and creativeness of filmmakers. We are seeing a different kind of genre emerge before our eyes and it is awesome to be a part of. By the way, JCVD even made Time magazine!

A great movie with a great performance by Jean Claude Van Damme. He shows that he can actually act in this movie and not in a over the top way like you might see in Street Fighter. The story is interesting and Jean Claude is a man you really feel sympathy for and want to follow throughout the film. His personal story works as does the heist he unwittingly gets involved with. The various techniques utilized by the director all work and it is a completely satisfying movie. Jean Claude really should have been considered for awards because he is jsut as good as Mickey Rourke is in the Wrestler, just watch his monologue, which I though worked perfectly.

I was completely shocked to see Jean Claude Van Damme actually act, and not only act, but knock this one out of the park. If you like Mickey Rourke's comeback, check out JCVD.

I watched this movie at a screening at my school and was really impressed by it. It was an interesting way to tell a story and is unlike anything I've seen Jean Claude Van Damme do. The main story is fictional, but Jean Claude basically plays himself. Very well made film. Excellent acting. I would recommend this to just about anyone.
