The African Queen

Two gigantic cinema legends team up for an unbeatable adventure film, massively influential and vastly underrated. Huston expands his horizons and creates a literally groundbreaking, landmark journey through the wild landscapes of Africa, employing the best use of Technicolor cinema has ever conceived and an almighty photography, resulting in pure cinematic bliss. An authentic breath-stealer, The African Queen is undoubtedly the reason why famous directors like Peter Weir, Werner Herzog and Terrence Malick could stand out in the film industry. Your main complaint may be aimed towards the unbelievability of the ending in comparison with the more realistic tone of the novel, but can't you give some room to the magic of Golden Age Hollywood that could make anything possible?

The African Queen review

This one is one of the popular classics that really touched this reviewers curiosity because of the two enigmatic leads. It involves boat captain Charlie Allnut (Humphrey Bogart) and religious Rose Sayer (Katharine Hepburn). Charlie is an obnoxious rude alcoholic while Rose tries to rehabilitate the boat owner who is scared to go thru a certain rapids.

Earnest performances and adequate plot keeps this viewable. The effects and pace were dated and slow respectively. Bogart's performance was earnest and Hepburn kept it real as well to make the pair watchable. Other than that, it was simplistic and nothing special except its a journey where you need the follow the two iconic protagonists. The African Queen has sufficient dialogues, soundtrack and some light humor to keep one …

Fun romance adevnture

A good adventure romance film by John Huston. It is fun to watch the African Queen go on its adventure through the obstacles to destroy a German Ship. It is fun to watch because the journey is interesting and the two leads are well played and also fun to watch. The film is not a masterpiece in any way but it is a good solid film.

Oscar Win Best Actor Humphrey Bogart 3/5- Bogart is enjoyable to watch in this movie and interacts well with Katherine Hepburn. He does not do anything overly special in this but is completely satisfactory in the role. Although it is rather hard to believe him as an English men but you forget he is suppose to be one anyways. He does not do anything unexpected but being good in a film like this makes the film good.
