Ridley Scott's prowess as a director almost makes it serviceable, but what good is "Body of Lies" when better CIA movies about the War on Terror (like "Zero Dark Thirty") exist?

Both the CIA and Jordanian Intelligence to catch "Al-Saleem", a Jihadist terrorist. Roger Ferris (Leonardo DiCaprio) is a case officer in Iraq and who was eventually abducted. Ed Hoffman (Russell Crowe) organizes a another operation thru a local agency operative named Skip (Vince Colosimo). Starts of enticing but falters in the middle. The picture had sensational realistic scenes and wonderful camera direction, if only the story could be the same. The acting was good but unfortunately the plot was not that engaging. Body of Lies is a decent crime film with two skilled actors.

I can see what they were trying to do with this film, but the tension never gets high enough and despite the trust issues, it never hit an emotional high with me. The casting was great, but the actors can't compensate for the material.

I turned it off after an hour. I tried to get into it, really did. It probably doesn't help that the movie starts right in the middle of the action without really establishing either of the main characters. Russell Crowe does his usual chameleon work by disappearing into his role, but the script just didn't get my interest.

This is a very intricate and detailed film. Now saying that it was actually rather slow for a thriller so I think in order to fully enjoy it the viewer should view it as a drama. There is action but the piece mainly deals with character, and relationships. For instance the main character played by Dicaprio is connected to pretty much every other character in the film. I think character is one of Ridley Scott's strong suites and that he does it exceptionally well here. Very entertaining and relevant film that I enjoyed very much.

This movie was a little boring. It didn't get me interested with what was going on. Too many of these terrorist movies that take place in the middle east fall short.

Action: 1.5 / 3, Comedy: 0 / 2, Good vs Evil: 0 / 1, Love/Sex: 0.5 / 1, Special Effects: 0.5 / 1, Plot: 1 /1, Music: 0.5 / 1 = 4/10 or 40%. The theme and plot of Body of Lies is initially intriguing, but after the first fifteen minutes of the film one has seen everything. Thus, the overall effort is stillborn and Scott falls back on typical elements to force the weak story onward. These forced elements, namely a sudden love interest for the main character and manifestation of the Jordanian version of Crowe's CIA head, render the serious scope Scott sets up back to the over treaded territory of such films as the Saint.
