I had never heard of this movie until I stumbled upon it when it was on On-Demand. I'm glad I took the chance on this unusual movie because I really enjoyed it. It is a perfect family movie, and it kept me interested the entire time. I wasn't sure what to expect when I first hit play, but I was pleasantly surprised and have seen the movie several times since then.

I like the buildup more than the payoff. An interesting concept that gives only a half-hearted effort. Still, a great supporting cast, including Bill Murry and Martin Landau, boost an otherwise ordinary film.

An underwhelming dystopian family adventure with so many missed opportunities; the claustrophobic settings help, but it builds to a formulated climax that just doesn't impress. One is left wondering why the builders made things so complicated, and why no one ever sees the hole above the city. Final Grade: C+
