No Screams

Prom Night was one of the worst horror movies, thriller and effects wise.

The story was alright, save for the fact that I don't know how you could escape from a high security insane asylum. The idea was unique, but there was better ways of going about it. I'm not sure if someone would kill everyone around somebody that they love to say that they have no one but them. Of course, I'm not insane, so I could be wrong.

The characters were very bland and unoriginal. The characters react very typically and they don't really bring light to the screen. The killer isn't very original either, and doesn't really react like he should. His killing at the end of the movie didn't really make sense to me, since his aunt and uncle were still alive.

The effects in the movie weren't very good. The …

A Bad, Bad, Bad, Bad Movie!

I don't even know where to begin because there were so many things that went wrong with this picture. It was supposed to be a horror film but it wasn't scary at all. In fact, one of my friends started laughing out loud in the cinema less than half-way through the movie and horror is not one of her favourite genres since she gets easily scared! Granted, my other two friends were scared out of their wits. But, really, I feel like the filmmakers and the actors didn't even try. The so-called "best part" of the film (the first scene) was done better in the animated parts "Kill Bill" due to their similar scenes. I know this is a remake but I'm not going to compare it to the original because I haven't seen it. Although I am interested because I heard that Jamie Lee Curtis is in it (I'm a big …

I have an obsessive compulsion to revisit the original movie when its remake is released in theaters. I just love to compare and contrast, then bitch about how the new one is not as good as its source material.

But something different happened with "Prom Night", not the least of which, this year's version seems to have borrowed only the title and most general of concepts from the 1980 version. Also, neither one is very good, the quality of the new one actually edging out the earlier version by the slimmest of margins.

I remember seeing the first "Prom Night" when it was first released in theaters in July of 1980. While I could not tell you much about it 28 years later, I do remember not particularly liking it. Upon my recent viewing, it is indeed a poor attempt to capitalize on …

Review - Prom Night (2008)

Delorted - wrote on 04/19/2008

There's nothing a hormone-driven teenager gets more excited about than her senior prom. You buy the dress, you wear the corsage, and in the case of Donna Keppel, played by Brittany Snow, you spend the night trying to dodge a psychotic pedophile teacher who's slashing up your friends.

"Prom Night" follows Donna on the biggest night of her high school career (y'know, other than that graduation thing), while a teacher that once lusted for her, played by Johnathan Schaech, murders her friends one-by-one to get to her. It's never explained why exactly he does this, other than out of rage or something. He just kills to kill I guess. At any rate, he won't stop until Donna is all his.

From the very beginning the movie is nothing more than another generic slasher flick. What's even more …
