Tony (Tony Leung) is an undercover cop while Officer "Tequila" Yuen (Chow Yun-Fat) is a competent cop. It was baffling how the book with the gun was found swiftly and Inspector Yuen doesn’t seem to run out of bullets. The picture was excessive in terms of explosions, bullets and violence. Not sure why the main antagonist had to include innocent patients and the slow motion's were a bit too much. If only it were more stylish as the director’s other films, the screenplay was not impressive and some scenes are just hard to swallow such as the “babies” scene. Performances from Leung and Fat were solid. Hard Boiled are definitely for hardcore action fanatics who enjoy old fashioned shootouts and undercover police work.

Most of the movie is one long action sequence, but it reveals John Woo at his finest as an action director. The shootout scenes are brutal, creatively shot, and feature iconic frames and stunts that are still copied by action films today. A film that thrives on pure adrenaline.

The shootout maybe a little unrealistic, but when it's this stylish who cares? This is one of the best action movies ever made.

Does Hard Boiled live up to the hype? Is it the best action movie ever made?. Hmm yes and no. Their are perhaps 3 or 4 action sequences in the whole film, but they do last a very long time. Not all are succesful but the majority of each sequence is pretty spectacular. But like i said, they go on far too long. The story around them is strong and interesting but the balance between the two is uneven, especially towards the finish. Yes, its a very good action film, one that has inspired hundreds i'm sure, but Die Hard, and Terminator 2 (which owes a lot to Hard Boiled) are still the best of the genre.

A standout among foriegn action films. Shows that the people overseas can make even better American style action films than us. It is amazing and still holds up today.
