A minor classic of the prison drama genre, more a well-crafted and well acted character study than the usual escape shenanigans.

An interesting look into the mind of criminal who finds redemption in an unlikely place. Burt Lancaster is excellent, even if the story makes the Birdman a bit too idealized. A good film even with the faults.
