I would say the story has supernatural elements, but horror might be pushing this. You should pair this with Nagisa Oshima's In the Realm of Senses to get the full impact of the story - which mixes sexual expression with a somewhat political message. This is more a traditional folklore tale, heavy on drama, light on horror.

This movie was a bit of a hazzle to track down, but when I finally did I wish I hadn't. The story is allright, and when you think about what year it was made it's pretty well done. However this is not horror in my book. It's a love story gone wrong with a ghost in it. It's not scary, it's not provocative and quite frankly not worth the watch. Watch this to satisfy your curiosity, but don't expect to much. You get to see som skin, but that is not why at least I watch horror movies. The actors did a allright job, but this movie didn't affect me at all. If you want to see an unhappy love story with supernatural elements this might be your cup of tea, but if you want to be scared... well you get the idea.
