Gory, daunting, and gripping with suspense, "Suspiria" proves horror can be stylish, as well as terrifying.

Not only is "Suspiria" a treat to the eyes with it's bright neon colors, but the most surreal movie experience ever. A twisted fairytale of nightmares with a fantastic soundtrack. Putting aside plot and character development which are just after thought. If your looking for those two things, then you will be disappointed. The films visual style and atmosphere are what's gonna stick out the most. No other horror movie is presented in such a interesting and unique way like this. On a technical side, it's masterful.

Beautiful imagery and haunting music cannot make up for a slow pace and relative lack of scares. The much hyped gore content is considerably less than I expected. What might have been frightening in 1977 doesn't hold up forty years later.

Uninteresting characters, a dreary pace, amateurish editing and plain not scary. It may be a cult favorite but this reviewer never felt any entertainment value to it. Acting was unrealistic and the plot felt rushed. The gore and fear factor were decent but the overall experience viewing this was a chore. So many horror flicks are better than this.

I'm not a big fan of Dario Argento but it had to said that this is one of the very best horror films. Set in a dance academy, of all places, it immediately unsettles you even before you learn the true purpose of this establishment. You're never quite sure whether the whole thing is an extended dream of the protagonist, Suzy. The film veers dreamily between the baroque sets with lurid colours, and stark reality. The cinemaography and set design contribute greatly to the tension as does the music provided by Argento's own rock band The Goblins. A remake was recently touted but mercifully the idea has now been scrapped because the would-be makers couldn't see anything inherently evil in a dance academy.

Some moments may have not made much sense to me, but the atmosphere is relentlessly creepy. Argento sets up some memorably tense scenes and that score just amplifies the horror to a higher level. This is one weird, spooky and admirably scary show.

A pure horror film in the sense that it is not trying to entertain or scare you with cheap "jump" scares; Suspiria means to simply terrify you. Yes, the acting is pretty poor at times and the plot is full of coincidences designed to move it along. None of that matters, however, because Dario Argento creates a mixture of visual creativity and suspense that carries with it an overwhelming sense of dread. You can tell from the first violent sequence (which may be one of the most unforgiving and brutal deaths in all horror films) that this movie intends to go for the jugular. Add to that an absolutely brilliant soundtrack and you have one of the scariest and unrelenting films ever made.

Relies more on a pervasive sense of dread (and one hell of a soundtrack) to scare, but whips out the 'oh my god!' moments to near perfection. Also features some killer visuals and cinematography. Sadly, it is probably destined to be remade into a pile of garbage.

A great great horror film!! Dario uses eerie blood red lighting, and tight claustrophobic shots of the actors and sets, which creates a creepy atmosphere similar to the Shining. But while the movie is great, its the music which makes this film for me. Its quietly frightening and whenever it plays I get the shivers. Combined, its his masterpiece 4/4
