John Carney's musical debut is a bitter-sweet symphony of powerful storytelling and sensational music that his films are known for.

Once is one of those films that so perfectly captures a mood and moment - in this case, the joy felt by creating a true piece of musical art. The film tells a love story, very simply and directly, but also one that plays at themes of creation of art and music. The acting is direct, the storytelling realistic, and soundtrack incredible.

"Take this sinking boat and point it home; we've still got time. Raise your hopeful voice..." Falling Slowly is such a stirring song; its melody stays in your head long after the credits roll. But the ending is what really made me love this movie.

A great wonderful film with a beautiful soundtrack by the Swell Season's Glen Hansaard and Marketa Irglova. A beautifully moving film with one of the best, most realistic endings I've seen in recent cinema. A down-to-earth drama of human activity and the symphony that shapes our lives, leading us into many different directions, "Once" is a lovely film, deeply affecting, and cringingly hopeful.

'Once' was a movie I found quite underwhelming. Though I loved "Falling Slowly" I was not a fan of the rest of the music. The performances were decent but not great...the script was alright. I know I'm not going to watch this film more than Once.

Less is more seems to be the motto here, simple but not stupid and engaging all around. The two leads with much emotional baggage give masterful low-key performances and its a shame they have both said they plan not to do anymore acting. The story unfolds naturally usually with a montage through song, the music is amazing and nothing feels forced. Filming with a hand held camera provided a crude feel which fits the mood perfectly. One of the best movies of 2007.

I loved this film and found it to be a truly emotionally engaging experience. I literally stopped the movie a half hour into my viewing to go over to my computer and download the soundtrack from itunes. Glen Hansard is an amazing singer, reminiscent of Damien Rice at times and Markéta Irglová was truly adorable with a magic that you don't see very often these days. I loved that this little love story was realistic and true to life instead of Hollywood. This was literally my favorite movie of 2007! I can't get enough of it.

This movie was incredibly underwhelming to me. Some of the music was nice, but most of the time I sat there going WTF? A much better watch if you're into the Frames, but I could have lived without it.
