Paul Schrader sets his masterful sights on ambitions this movie can't even come close to conquering.While I respect it for its practical portrayal of the supernatural, opening the possibility of a horror film that can be more thoughtful than gore and jump scares, it just isn't very scary and makes hardly a mark on the legacy of "The Exorcist."

I only gave this 2 stars because I love horror movies. However, with "Exorcist" in the title it did not live up to my expectations. The film gave good background on the Father but not the demon. There were a few good death scenes.
