Maybe the most regarded noir film ever made.

Grab the legendary and iconic film-noir genre, insert an inert entity in the middle of circumstances and let and extraordinarily well-developed screenplay unleash the typical thematic elements that the Golden Age of American cinema had introduced us through gangsters, starting with obsession, violence, femme fatales and greedy ambition.. A wonderful, almost unbelievable cast and a top direction by John Huston is what is his first masterpiece, The Maltese Falcon is a meticulously directed crime masterpiece that any human being should behold and treasure. 98/100

The most iconic example of the hard-boiled private eye noir film. Bogart plays it cool and is the driving force of this fast talking mystery. A decent watch, but far from being my favorite noir.

Classic film noir that gives you everything you would want in a film like this: murder, mystery, suspicious characters, a femme fatale, twists, turns, and of course, Humphrey Bogart. The story takes several turns, just when you think you have it figured out you find yourself questioning it again. They just don't make films like this anymore, and that's too bad.

This is one of the most iconic noir mysteries in film. It has everything that will please mystery buffs - red herring clues, memorable and sinister characters, a gruff and tough Bogart performance, and some beautiful noir photography that builds on a Rembrandt-like pallette of shadows and highlights.

Though Bogey is enthralling (as usual), a pedestrian script and a dull supporting cast (particularly Astor) plunge the film into a purgatory of pseudo-melancholy and predictability.

The Maltese Falcon is a terrific mystery film noir, in every aspect basically. The story is properly complicated and interesting, and the incredibly well played, and original characters is what makes the film truly memorable. All the actors are great especially Sydney Greenstreet as the aptly named Gutman and Bogart may be in his best where he truly is great as Sam Spade. He shows the right control of every scene, and really gives a very strong performance. The film is interesting to see through, and I find just simply gets better after every viewing.

Absolute classic film-noir with Bogey and Lorre, amongst the other terrific cast. It's the characters that bring out the story, which is full of enough twists and crosses to make you go back to the beginning once you're finished just so you can remember what happened. Dreams? They're made of this.

Possible one of my favourite crime films and one of the best films of the 1940's. Look out for Peter Lorre aswell who gives a great supporting role.
