A Horror Classic!

This is a film that has been called "The Citzen Kane of British Horror." While I wouldn't go that far in its praise, Robin Hardy's "The Wicker Man" is still one of the most chillingly brilliant and shockingly terrifying films in the history of the genre.
The film centers around a British policeman who travels to a remote island to investigate the dissapearance of a young girl. When there he learns there's more to the island than meets the eye. The island is a place of strange rituals and where people are taught sex is the devil's work. This leads up to a shocking ending that will leave you thinking about it for days.
The acting in the film doesn't offer any stand out performances, but some notables are Edward Woodward as the officer and horror icon Christopher Lee as the evil Lord …

The Citizen Kane of horror movies (as attributed to Film magazine Cinefantastique).
The Wicker Man is an amazing, audacious and intelligent film expertly crafted and beautifully shot.
Surviving an extremely troubled production (the film company British Lion Films was taken over by EMI and actors including Christopher Lee worked without pay), the Wicker Man defies all conventions with its chilling and off centre screenplay. Successfully blending a number of genres and employing a superb and oft used folk soundtrack, the film snakes its way to a cataclysmic and shocking finale. One of the best British movies of all time, the effect of the Wicker Man is hypnotic even after multiple viewings and although it offers many questions, the answers are not so forthcoming.

I don't think it's any secret that most horror movies made before 2001 were pretty awesome. Most we remember, such as Halloween and A Nightmare on Elm Street, but there are quite a few that become forgotten by most people. One of these movies is certainly THE WICKER MAN. No, not the crappy Nicholas Cage movie from 2006. The origional WICKER MAN from 1973 is considered one of the most shocking and odd British films ever made, and is today considered a cult classic among horror fans. Of course, Hollywood had to fuck with it, coming out with that horrible 2006 remake which was almmost imediately forgotten. Not only is this a great horror film, it introduced horror icon Christopher Lee, known for his roles in DRACULA and the STAR WARS prequels, to a new generation.
